Four Mile Beach – Port Douglas, Queensland

Here’s a shot of Becky and I during a little uphill walk on Port Douglas’s Four Mile Beach. Surprisingly this beach is four miles long. The gorgeous slice of coastline allowed us to chill out in the sun in Queensland while at home in Melbourne winter was in full flow.

Four Mile Beach

This stretch of scenic coastline was one of my many firsts in Queensland. It took me two years but I finally made it up to the tropical north of Australia. The water lapped gently against the shore and even more gently against my legs as I took the plunge in. My favourite thing to do in Australia was go straight into the water after work or on a day off. Something you wouldn’t be doing in sunny old England.

Four Mile Beach is only a short walk from the main Port Douglas District. We stayed in a nice hostel on the stretch of main road and it was a great spot to go on foot everywhere. Of course, being with Becky, we also made many road trips in the car too. I didn’t get around to snacking on the croc tacos that Becky so enthusiastically recommended.

The hill top walk we did from Four Mile Beach (in our bikinis) took us to a lovely lookout over the bay and a down hill walk from there took us to Rex Smeal Park.
