Singapore’s Resort Island – Sunny Sentosa

Singapore’s biggest and most explored resort is that of Sentosa Island. We went on the public holiday for Chinese New Year and the entire place was thriving with bustling bodies and voices in all languages.

The easiest route into the island is by train but I recommend you walk over the water via the walkway. There are market stalls lined down the path. Aside from being a pretty walk, it’s somewhat faster than the train, especially on a public holiday where there’s a queue of people waiting.

Sentosa has a large studio and play zones to keep the kids entertained. While the man-made beaches are a great escape. I’m not a lover of resorts in the slightest, I find they take away from the true nature and culture of a country. It’s like basically putting a place for tourists to be comfortable and live in a separate world of niceness and order. Having said that, I believe it’s good to immerse yourself fully into any experience.

After dripping with sweat in the heat, we sat at a bar and drank bottles of Savannah, looking out at the constructed beach. People watching has always been one of my favourite activities, and I was rewarded with a glimpse of someone falling off their canoe.

My favourite part was when Danielle and I ventured onto Soloso beach and went in the hanging bridge walk above the water. We somehow found a long palm tree hanging off a cliff edge, so of course we climbed it. There are questionable photos where my expressions are truly showing how I felt, but I only went out as far as I felt comfortable. I’m adventurous, but only to a certain extent!

These are a few snaps of our tree climbing, monkeying selves.
